Things have pretty much been kept under wraps concerning Capcom’s Wii game Spyborgs. When development started, the idea was to present a very kid-friendly cartoon-style action game with emphasis on minigames, like on-rails shooting segments and such. However, around halfway through development, Capcom decided on an entirely new focus for the game, resulting in something of an overhaul. Now Spyborgs is a stylish motionbased brawler, and perhaps the better for it.

So, just what is the game about, you might ask? Well…Spyborgs? Again, it’s all under wraps, but as you may have caught, “Spyborg” is a combination of “Spy” and “Cyborg”, meaning the main characters are probably some kind of cyborg that work for a secret organization. And then, I guess, something happens within the organization that has the Spyborg’s on the run. But again, that is something of a guess. You get the idea.

Recently, Capcom unveiled their progress in a hands-on demo. Originally, the idea is that there would be a five-character roster. Now, it’s been reduced to a distinct three, which is probably a better choice. The first is an agile she-ninja by the name of Clandestine, the second is a gigantic tank of a gorilla-looking robot named Bouncer, and the third is Stinger, who is best suited for ranged combat. Did I mention the game features co-op play? So it’s kind of the idea to experiment with the characters with another player, and figure out which combination of characters works best and for what levels. The gameplay itself itself mostly involves motions, and pulling off well-timed combos and special abilities.

The visuals have changed dramatically since the game’s overhaul. While the original graphical style could well have been compared with that of the kids-geared platformer Sly Cooper, it’s now more comparable of Ratchet & Clank. While cartoony in a way, it’s also very detailed and textured, and very cool. While the characters look like sophisticated robots they also have a lot of personality. Bouncer is very visually appealing for a tank-like character in a brawling game.

Capcom hasn’t exactly announced just when the final game will be released, but the idea is to get out before the year 2009 ends. From what we have seen, it’s a tough and intense co-op fighting game that is supposed to appeal to more than just the casual crowd that the Wii is so often known for.

Little King’s Story is a Wii game based on much the same concept as My Life As King, though both games started development at around the same time. The idea is that the player is the King, and has control over essentially everything and everybody in the kingdom. Rather like Harvest Moon meets Pikmin, it’s a game about management and strategy, and has a very fascinating cartoony style that sucks you in.

Things at the game’s beginning play out in a very similar fashion to Where The Wild Things Are, and I guess a lot of other kid’s stories. Basically, the main character(a young boy) ends up magically transported to a world where he has been appointed King. The question is, is this young boy really in this magical kingdom, or is it all in his head? This is left a little open to interpretation. One clue may be that the cutscenes portraying the kingdom’s legends look like they were drawn with a crayon.

Surprisingly enough, Little King’s Story does not feature motion control or IR support. Still, the controls work perfectly. The analog on the nunchuk is used for movement, A is for talking and other actions, and the B trigger is for recruiting men and having them follow you to do your bidding. Press 1 to dismiss followers. The D-pad controls the camera, the C button zooms the camera, and pressing Z shows you your king’s line of sight.

The idea is (again, much like in My Life As A King) to build up your beginning town and spread out your kingdom. At first, you have this little house with a small throne room, and many of the men around you are slackers, but that changes over time. As you hunt for treasure and complete other tasks you earn gold, which can be used to fund the building of new structures, such as town buildings, or bridges, or a myriad of other things that help the people expand and grow. As the wealth of your kingdom builds, the more changes will take place in the economy. You will start to see more beautiful houses and carefully constructed buildings, and peasants will be clothed in much more elegant garb.

Little King’s Story is already out in Japan, and will soon be released in Europe. After that, it will come to North America. At the very least, it will serve as a more full-fledged offering of what My Life As King attempted to do.

Wii Sports is a game that initially shipped with the Nintendo Wii Console. Its popularity is partially due to realistic gameplay - not with the game graphics but due to how the games are played. They mimic real-world sports games.

For example, to hit the ball in the tennis game, one merely swings the controller to the left or right. One does not have to fiddle with a small controller pad to play the game. To hit a baseball, one holds the controller similar to how one would hold a baseball bat. This is the most realistic game play we have ever seen for sports video games.

The games included are tennis, baseball, boxing, bowling, and golf. The boxing game requires a separate “nunchuck” which plugs into the controller.

All games include training, standard play, several multiplayer choices, and the ability to create your own characters.

The training allows one to hone in on one of three different actions for each sport. Just as in real life, training or practice helps to improve your performance. In tennis, one can focus on returning the ball or placing the ball within a specific area. In baseball, one can practice pitching or batting. Boxing training is useful for learning how to duck and weave and throw your punches at just the right moment.

The standard gameplay involves one player playing against the computer. In some modes, defeating a computer opponent will often result in the gaining of “experience”. With enough experience, your rank increases. One’s rank is cause for bragging rights among his or her fellow gamers.

The multiplayer option allows two, three, or four players to compete against one another. This is Wii Sports at its most immersive and rewarding. Its one thing to pit your skill against a challenging computer player, another to play with living, breathing people whose real-life movements (as well as yours) directly correspond with onscreen gameplay. Of course, each player must have his or her own controller.

With Wii Sports, you can create your own characters and save them for later use. To create your own character, one simply starts with a character from the “Mii channel”. The character can then be customized to one’s own liking. Some of these characters can be used in games other than Wii Sports.

Many gamers enjoy saving their Wii Sports characters to the Wii remote controller, and will take them to a friend’s house, and insert the character into the game at the friend’s house. This adds greater personality to the gaming experience.

Game reviewers have given Wii Sports positive reviews overall, but are quick to point out a few flaws. The game has also won several awards.

The Nintendo Wii Sports game provides hours of fun for people of all ages.

It is understandable that newcomers to the Nintendo Wii console may be confused by the variety of controllers available. The reason for this happening was, in part, because the motion-sensing technology the console excels in is not so well suited for some games.

For example, the Wii’s initial “Wii Remote”(or “WiiMote”) may be excellent for first-person shooters and racing games, but does not handle so well with genres such as fighting, where the player is often forced to quickly pull off a series of complex actions in a short amount of time.

So, in total, there are four controller setups: WiiMote, WiiMote & Nunchuk, GameCube Controller, and Classic Controller.

The WiiMote was the original setup. Its a one-hand motion-sensing controller that is often used for puzzle and party games, as well as racing games and some sports. For each of these, the controller is held in a different position.

In racing games, the controller is held sideways with both hands and twisted back and forth to control the racing vehicle onscreen. In sports, the controller is held in various positions which mimic real life. For example, in bowling, the controller movement is very similar to the movement of one’s hand and arm while bowling at the lanes. The tennis game requires holding the controller upright to serve the ball, and flicking the wrist to return the ball.

The Nunchuk is a control stick attachment that also features motion-sensing. An example of its features is in that of the common first-person shooter: you look, aim, and fire using the WiiMote in your right hand, while you steer with the Nunchuk in your left hand, and lift the Nunchuk slightly to reload your weapon. The Nunchuk is also used in boxing, manipulating the left hand punches while the WiiMote controller manipulates the right hand punches.

Some Wii games are compatible with the GameCube controller. Some examples include Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Mario Kart. These are traditional type games that do not lend themselves well to the new Wii controller. The GameCube controller is not wireless as are the WiiMote and Nunchuk.

Yet another option in a Wii controller is the “Classic Controller”. The Classic does not feature motion-sensing, but does have dual control sticks (rather like that of the Playstation) as well as basically all the button configurations that the Gamecube controller features. As with the GameCube controller, the Classic is not wireless.

However, this is going to change very soon because the Nyko company will very soon be releasing their wireless version of the Classic Controller. Reviewers with preview models have generally praised this new edition to the Wii controller family.

The Nintendo’s variety of controllers insure there are many ways to play and enjoy games on the Wii.

In a recent interview, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto stated that he believed something was “missing” in the latest installments of his two most popular series: Zelda and Mario. That’s right; Miyamoto said that both Super Mario Galaxy and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess were lacking. In what he did not say, but he feels that other leading games have something his do not. He made it clear that Twilight Princess was not a bad game, just missing something he couldn’t put his finger on.

About Super Mario Galaxy, he mentioned, “And while, personally, I feel like Super Mario Galaxy was able to do some things that were very new and were very unique, at the same time, from another perspective, certain elements of it do feel somewhat conservative in terms of how far we branched out with design. And so this is something I’ve been talking to both of those teams about.”

I agree that it does feel like there is a certain lack of a specific kind of depth in those games that we do see in other franchises. On the part of Mario Galaxy, it’s true that design is in many ways responsible, but there’s something else, too. And I have a pretty good idea of what it is. It’s the aspect of each series that has failed to evolve with almost every other major franchise: characters and story structure.

In terms of the depth-of-character, it’s understandable that they haven’t acted until now. Nintendo’s characters are well-known almost world-wide. What if they give Link from Legend of Zelda a personality, and large groups of people say, “That is not how I imagined him!” Besides, it is true, as Nintendo once said, that Link acts as the “Link” between the player and the character onscreen, and if Link had a specific personality people could not project themselves onto him as well.

However, if Link was truly the “Link”, shouldn’t we be able to customize his looks, or at least clothing? Choose in what manner he talks with people, and the kinds of weapons and abilities he uses? No, the games do not attempt to do this at all. Instead, (in the case of Twilight Princess) they give us a world full of characters, bursting with back-story and, in some cases, inner struggles. But when the main character has no voice or personality, the character dynamics needed to effectively portray these events and character aspects are inconveniently absent. The decision Nintendo has made is not like choosing “this” instead of “that”, it’s a complete absence of both.

The “characters” aspect may not apply so much to Super Mario Galaxy, but the “story structure” aspect does. Searching for star after star and unlocking new worlds is a heck of a lot of fun, but it does start to drag. People just aren’t as driven to beat the game as the case with other franchises any more.

Again, they are both great games, but they are missing the kind of depth that other games have. Shigeru Miyamoto is apparently putting a lot of thought into this, so let’s hope he’ll be able to make the right choice, and lead both series in the right direction.

Racing games on the Wii are few and far between, proper ones even more so. Shortly after the Wii’s launch, many developers jumped onto the bandwagon, but rather inconveniently forgot to bring forward some actually appealing games. Issues such as difficulty utilizing motion control, and other issues, held back most racers from fully embracing the Wii as a platform for good racing game enjoyment.

If you own a Wii and want some good racing games, do not despair. Here displayed in order from least to greatest are three racing games for Wii that are well worth your time and money. Though there are others worth consideration, these are widely considered to be the best the console currently has to offer.

First up is Excite Truck. Excite Truck is, in fact, a Wii launch title. It does not offer either local or online racing. But what it does offer is a sheer sense of speed, the likes of which few other racing games have seen.

The game, as with most other Wii racing titles, is played with the Wii remote. The remote is held in a horizontal position in front of the player and tilted from side to side to steer. Pressing the D-pad engages your boost, which can be activated at any time but will overheat and slow down your engine if overused.

The visuals are breathtaking, even if the gameplay itself is somewhat shallow. Overall, it’s a game that at least deserves a rent.

Next is Need For Speed Carbon.

Need For Speed Carbon is a street-racing game, and all that that implies. Car shop and customization options, street car races, and police car chases make this game. Being able to customize your car’s paint job, engine, etc. alone make this a very replayable game, and the races themselves are everything we’ve come to expect from the Need For Speed series.

Lastly, Mario Kart Wii is currently the very best racing game for Wii.

The first aspect that sets Mario Cart above the rest is the game features a total of four different control schemes. The first is the aforementioned Wii remote. The game comes with a “Wii Wheel”, for inserting the remote inside for easier handling. The second is the Wii “remote & nunchuk” scheme, where the game is controlled as you would normally play a game after inserting the nunchuk into the remote. Also, the game is compatible with both Gamecube and Classic Controllers.

Secondly, Mario Kart Wii features online multiplayer support; some of the best and most convenient Nintendo has ever achieved.

Mario Kart Wii is also the first Mario Kart game to introduce motorcycle racing, a fresh spin on the classic kart-racing gameplay.

Some may say that the current best racers are on the Xbox 360 and PS3, but I wouldn’t count out the Wii yet.

Although most of the games available for the Nintendo Wii would not strictly be considered “educational”, there are a few that meet that definition.

Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure

Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure is one such game. Zack is a boy with a dream of becoming the greatest pirate in the world. To reach his goal, he must solve 24 puzzles. In each one, Zack must manipulate the environment in some way to finish that portion of his Quest. He is helped by his sidekick Wiki.

Zack and Wiki employ problem-solving skills in order to meet their objective.

Arcamedic Builders

The developer Arcamedic Builders sells many Wii games which focus on math and word skills. In Grand Prix Multiplication, the performance of the player’s cars depends on answering math problems correctly. With Word Frog, the player must choose antonyms, synonyms, or homonyms for specific words

Arcamedic Builders games are online games that are optimized for play on the Wii. Over one dozen games are available.

Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree

This game is based on a Nintendo DS game with the same name. The game begins with a test, in which you are rated in 5 categories. These scores are used as a baseline for future tests. One can compete with up to seven other players.

In contrast to similar games available for home computers, Wii Degree makes extensive use of the WiiMote.

Cranium Kabookii

Cranium Kabookii is a new kind of Wii game that takes advantage of the unique features of teh Wii. The game utilizes the Wii Remote and the “Kabookii Decoder Glasses”. Cranium Kabookii creates a living canvas on the TV screen in which teams jam together, exercise drawing ability, act, solves puzzles, or even crack codes to win games.

The activities include:

* Getting players to spraypaint the entire solar system on a wall. Believe it or not, you can hear the can shaking in your hand!

* Turn the Wiimote into a hammer to play “Auld Lang Syne” on a xylophone

*Solve word puzzles

The Kabookii Decoder Glasses are an added bonus, as they let only one player at a time to individually see the hidden clues on the TV screen.

Smarty Pants

Do you enjoy trivia games? Smarty Pants is just such a game! It cleverly alters the questions to what is most appropriate for each individual player. The way it works is this: players reveal their ages (they do this when they create their Mii) and then the game only asks questions suitable for that age of player.

Smarty Pants is a good choice for ages eight and over, and is also an excellent choice for a family party game.

Regardless of your age or interests, you can find an educational game for your Nintendo Wii.

While many third-party efforts for WiiWare have been lackluster and of little consequence, a good many this next year are looking to be surprisingly promising. Not only do these three games look good considering they are cheaply sold offerings for a game download service, but they may just give big-budget games a run for their money.

The first of this three is a game in development by the makers of De Blob, called Swords and Soldiers. Swords and Soldiers is a competitive strategy game featuring cartoony graphics, and a splitscreen multiplayer mode as well as a singleplayer campaign. As the devs have put it, it is basically a sidescrolling RTS, in which the object is to deploy your troops at just the right moments in order to outwit and defeat your foe. The reason for this is that in Swords and Soldiers, the moment your troops have been created they will automatically move toward the enemy base.

However, there are additional tactical elements. For example, certain sections of the battlefield allow you to set up a fortress and bunker down. There are also different specific paths you can make your men take, potentially opposing or confronting an army your path may cross with. Though you can use all kinds of spells and abilities to aid your troops in battle, what it really comes down to is careful timing and resource management.

The second game I’d like to point out is called Cave Story. Cave Story was originally a free-to-play title for pc. It featured an extended storyline about a race of underground rabbit-like creatures called mimigas, who an evil doctor manipulates by feeding them red herbs that transform them into monsters. The majority of the game took place underground, where you, a robot by the name of Quote, had originally been sent to exterminate the mimigas.

The storyline was deep and intriguing for an indie game, and the action utilized certain roleplaying elements, as you leveled up your weapons with every attack. Now, the developers will be upgrading the graphics and adding at least ten levels to the game. It should be interesting to see what this talented developer comes up with on a larger budget and with more possibilities to enhance the game.

Lastly, there is Muramasa: The Demon Blade, a very highly anticipated game that is being developed by the team that brought you Odin Sphere. Like Odin Sphere, it is a cartoon sidescrolling action RPG. The style is so visually awesome that many people called it one of the best looking games presented at the Tokyo Game Show conference. The watercolored look of the environments is nothing less than gorgeous.

The gameplay combines oldschool beat-em-up action with RPG gameplay as the character leaps from area to area defeating enemies; gaining experience and new weapons and abilities. Players can also stop at certain villages and speak with the townfolk, to complete quests for gold and experience. Such deep and engaging gameplay systems are usually reserved for the big-budget games on store shelves.

Just like any other gaming and playing devices, there are Wii game free download items ready for you in the web. All you have to do is find whatever you prefer to play with this gaming device’s remote and controls and you can already download it as soon as possible. But don’t just get any Wii game free download from any site that offers it. Make sure that you are getting from the best and the most reputable source in the web for your satisfaction guaranteed experience. Most importantly, check on the validity of these sites to keep from getting unwanted or unfavorable downloads every so often.

One thing to learn about Wii is that it has a game download service that manages to enable any user or owner to download and play. This is known as the Virtual Console, which is compatible to all Nintendo produced NES/Famicom,SNES/Super Famicom, and N64 games. You can able to download and play this videogames in exchange of really small price. As a bonus, you can be able to get another free retro download or reward from Nintendo. This will also be applicable to the Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx 16 consoles as these games will be made available for the Virtual download service.

The best thing in Wii game free download and the use of virtual download service is that it will enable an owner or a player to download even those games that were not originally made for their region. They will also avail of the sharper and improved graphics and frame rates that are just designed for Wii game free download. Another thing is that some of these multiplayer games will also be playable online so there is no more reason not to play something from the Wii to the family’s computer. Isn’t that grand?

The virtual download service that will provide Wii game free download items will not be all for retro games but for newer and original versions of the Nintendo games too. That is the latest from the maker and is expected to be done the soonest possible time. An excerpt to a press conference help with the Japanese maker says, “all downloaded games will be stored on the 512 [MB] flash memory built into the system”. And they also warn illegal copiers and will issue DRM systems to all proprietors to ensure the quality and originalty of these Wii game free download items.
